Dirt Sprint Rd5

Results from the last championship round for the season.  A hot Ipswich day with smoke hanging around from the distant fires.  Good day at the track, not so good for those Emergency Services personnel dealing with the current crisis.

Autocross Rd 5

A warm and a bit windy day, with 36 drivers hitting the start pad. Track was well prepped, but took a lot of water over the day. Troy Moffitt put in a couple of sub 1:30 times to thrash Mick McMillan by 0.8 of a second over 6 scored rounds. That is about 0.14 of a second for each 2 lap run. Great to watch:) Poulier was next in the largish E class on the day. Best 2WD was Bondy in 8th OR in the Pulsar with Parkesy 9th OR (same car) a few seconds back and Jared Predo securing third from JP Hewitson in the Mazda Ute (rounding out A Class).

B class saw Ric Ganderton take the win and 11th OR in the big block (2litre) Excel, with Josh Newson 2nd in the BMW and newcomer Tim Crase doing a good job in the Peugot 206. Stuart McLeod and first time runeer Andrei Vishnevskii (Alfa 156) rounding out the class. Dan Bruce fronted up in Class with a little blower on his 318 BMW, putting him in C Class, but honours went to Mark Davies, despite damage on the 6th run after spearing off on the sweeper and finding the wall. Next was Dan, then Stephen Davies in 3rd in the same (now damaged) BMW. Dillan Pierera just missing out an the plastic.

Mark Phillips took the D Class win in the well thrashed (buy the family) Falcon from Ian McGuire in the Red Bull VR Commodore with Wilhelm Link taking 3rd in the S40 Volvo.

Ladies saw Steph Muston take the win in the WRX from Chloe Cullen in the FWD Civic Type R and Joanne Phillips in the RWD Falcon. Maddy Dyba pipped in 4th, but I think another PB as she improves in the Ignis. Good spread of cars in that class. Juniors saw Emma Crase with a lead after three runs, but as the track gripped up a bit Hayden Duffield got faster and took the win, from Emma and Tristan Newson in the BMW.

Thanks to Donny, Tom, Peter, Parkesy for track/equipment prep, Cam for the fine burgers, Mick McMillan, Jared Predo, Chloe, Chase McMillan, Josh Newson and Wayne Poulier for providing assistance in the tower and Maddy Dyba, Donny and Rad Guerin for flagging. Nice to see a few competitors giving a hand again.

That wraps up the Autocross part of the year, with 5 rounds run.

Dirt Sprint Rd 4

A very warm September sunday saw 33 enties front the starting pad, with 7 runs through in quick time and an early presentation. Juniors had the biggest field with 8 ( including 1 JB), E Class 6 (all WRXs of some description), with 5 each for C and D. The first run saw times similar to RD 3, but the track felt grippy, and was very smooth, so thank to Donny, Coggo etc for a great surface.  Hayden Duffield took the win (by 0.5 secs) from Scott and Korey Ward with sister Montana 2nd in ladies for a family trifecta. Chloe Cullen taking the Ladies win. Michael Watkins punted the over 2 Litre BMW in Junior B, to be a good 13th OR, in a time that would have netted a 2nd in C Class.  Newcomer Tim Crase put his Peugot 306 to the B class win, by 0.15 over Josh Newson, in the closest finish of the day.  Andrew Pearce had to retire the XR5Turbo early, but still managed to hold out Peter Mapstone in the XR8 by 0.62 for the win, and 2nd 2WD.  A Class saw Parkesy punt the 1600 Pulsar to best 2WD, in 6th outright, for a commanding win, while normal co -driver, Bondy,  took Wayne Pouliers offer to drive the WRX STI, to 2nd OR behind owner Wayne, who set a blistering 1:33 dead on the final final run to put 8/10ths over the rest.  Bondy did pick up best lap (by 0.06 secs) for his 6th run, noting that the 7th ended up backwards at the last corner (doh). Thanks to all the flaggies (Donny, Rad) and Cam in the canteen.  And Coggo in the water truck certainly kept the track from breaking up.

Four Lap Sprint MK II

Fathers day saw a good field of 32 on a lovely spring Queensland day take the track with most of the usual suspects, although a (relatively) new E class runner was there to challenge, with Bondy having a run in the very fast McMillan EVO 9.  All the fast cars were on the track at the same time, except for Bondy (sharing) so the resultant times were not quite on exactly the same track, with 4/5 getting a water truck on the last run. Run 4 saw only 0.07 between Moffit, Bond and McMillan in the closest class of the day, although Troy did do a "much" faster run at 44.55 on run 3, to take OR and FTD.  Well done Troy:). Some other notable performances included Barry Clark being fastest 2wd in the BMW, Wilhelm Link proviong a Volvo S40 is anything but boring taking 2nd in D Class, and Stephen Heatherman getting the very green RX7 to its full potential for the first time in about 2 years in C Class, Chloe Cullen proving the Type R Civic is a reasonable beast taking Ladies in her best run for a while, Maddy Dyba getting her (I think PB) of 51.6 and Jordyn Rieck being well pleased with a 49.2 being her best (also note that run 5 saw 49.69, 49.29 and 49.53 being pretty consistent for any experience level, let alone a Junior). Thank to all the flagggies and other officials in the spring heat and Cam inthe Canteen.

Autocross Round 4

A windy Sunday saw reasonable field of 36 line up, with a very competative E Class field.

Mick McMillan took the win, but Troy Moffitt grabbed the fastest lap 43.43 (run 6 of 7), to better Mick's 43.60 on the same run. Alan Weinart kept them honest in third.

Best 2WD on the day was Bondy in the A Class Pulsar, just pipping Parkesy in the same car but fastest 2WD time was Barry Clark, with a 1:34.4 last run. 7th to 9th OR behind the 6 4WDs.

Scott Ward in the big block Pulsar was best JNR with a 1:38.2 last run, and 5th quickest B class car. Next was William Harris in a BMW and Connor McLeod in the Lancer, who had to swap into Dad's Lancer due to a lack of fuel for the last run. Stephanie Muston ended up best of the ladies with a run 4 time of 1:41.7 being the best time for the class. Chloe Cullen got close in the Fiesta with a 1:42.3, and almost bested that, in the Bond/Parkes Pulsar, after the Fiesta needed towing, with a 1:42.5 last run.

Best presented went to Peter Mapstones Red AU XR8:)

AGM was held at lunch, and a report will be posted shortly on that.

Two post event corrections:

Greg Woodbridge had 40 secs added for run 4, where only 1 lap was recorded, so his time is slowest in class plus 5 for that run, and Eva Hatje with a similar issue on run 6.  B Class was not affected but D Class placings are re-arranged with Peter Mapstone first (as announced) but Paul Trenear now second and Mark Phillips third, as Greg unfortunately dropped to 4th (from second).

Dirt Sprint Rd 3

Good field of 38 (again) with some very close class results including a tie for C Class between Leigh Randles (BMW 130i) and Kristiaan Amos in the Cameron McLean VL C'dore.   Unfortunately Michael Suhr had a double roll in The Mitsi Colt, and had to be taken for a collarbone check, and was very sore.  Hopefully not major.  The club wishes him a speedy recovery. Thanks to everyone for following protocol, and to the team from Proston (Brad Hurford, Krystle Power) for recovering the vehicle on their tilt, and putting it on its' car trailer. Much appreciated.
